MsFinancialLiteracy.comSourced money guides

Editorial policy

This page explains how guides on MsFinancialLiteracy.com are researched, checked and kept current.

Sources

  • Facts about the world come from primary or authoritative sources: the IRS, the Social Security Administration, HealthCare.gov and CMS, the Department of Labor, the Federal Reserve, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Census Bureau, and peer-reviewed or original research.
  • The reference sits in the same paragraph, table row or list item as the figure it supports, and the source list at the end of the guide shows the date the figure applies to.
  • Worked examples (for instance, how long a savings rate takes to reach a target) are labelled as examples and state their assumptions.

Dates and updates

  • Each guide shows when it was published and when its content last changed. We do not change the date for cosmetic edits.
  • Annual figures (contribution limits, tax brackets, premium tax credit rules) are reviewed every January and when the IRS or another agency announces a change.

Authorship and review

Guides are written and edited by the editorial team and signed as such. A guide carries a “Reviewed by” line only when a named, credentialed professional has reviewed it and agreed to be named. We never publish under invented names or personas.

What we will not publish

  • Individual investment, tax or legal advice.
  • Recommendations to buy specific securities or cryptocurrencies.
  • Product rankings or “best of” lists, until and unless we can test products first-hand and disclose any commercial relationship.
  • Content copied from other publishers, including the earlier blog that used this domain.

Corrections

If you find an error, write to [email protected] with the page and the source that shows the correct figure. We fix confirmed errors promptly and update the page's modified date when the change affects the substance.
